Pre-appointment checks

Police work requires confidence in identity, integrity, suitability and the conditions attached to the particular post.

The campaign explains the checks that apply. They can include identity and eligibility verification, police vetting or security clearance where required, references or previous-service checks, integrity and conduct checks, and other lawful role-specific requirements.

Selection is not yet appointment

Being selected to continue, receiving a provisional indication or entering vetting does not itself make a candidate a police officer or member of police staff. Appointment is confirmed only when the recruitment process is complete.
